Heidi acquires UK firm AutoMedica as the Eucalyptus-Hims deal, valued at $1.15 billion, marks the largest ANZ healthtech transaction on record
28 Mar 2026

Australia's health AI sector entered a new phase of consolidation in the first quarter of 2026, with two landmark transactions redefining the competitive landscape. Heidi, the Australian clinical AI company best known for its ambient documentation platform, acquired UK-based AutoMedica in February 2026 to extend its European footprint. The deal arrived alongside new product launches, including a patient outreach tool and an evidence platform built with medical database and journal partners, signalling that Heidi is moving from a single-use documentation tool toward an integrated clinical operating environment for primary care
The larger structural signal came from the completed acquisition of Eucalyptus, Australia's largest direct-to-consumer telehealth platform, by US-listed consumer health company Hims and Hers. The transaction, which closed on June 2, 2026, was valued at up to $1.15 billion. Galen Growth identified it as the largest disclosed ANZ healthtech merger and acquisition event on record. The deal absorbed a platform with significant Australian subscriber scale into a global operator already present in the UK, Germany, Japan, and Canada
Broader sector data reinforces the trend. Private healthtech fundraising in Australia and New Zealand reached $416 million across 11 deals in 2025, a 101-percent increase over the prior year, with preliminary 2026 figures suggesting the full year could reach $620 million. AI-powered diagnostics and remote patient monitoring together accounted for 58 percent of capital raised in early 2026, up sharply from 34 percent in the same period a year prior
According to the Medical Software Industry Association, the market is increasingly rewarding platforms with demonstrated clinical footprints and evidence of sustainability, a shift likely to concentrate further M&A activity among the handful of scaled Australian AI health companies
